The national park service includes almost 400 natural, cultural and recreational sites across the United States. These sites include everything from the Grand Canyon to Alcatraz Island covering more than 84 million acres. They can be found in every state with the exception of Delaware as well as American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. In 2007 Great Smoky Mountains National Park was the most visited National Park with over 9 million visitors while Kobuk Valley National Park in Alaska had only 356 visitors. This was out of a total national park system visitor count of about 275 million. In 2007 The national parks had 3 million tent campers and close to 2 million backcountry campers as well as just over 2 million RV campers.
